Getting Started

Step 1: Access the Generator

Visit scripter.au/free-prescription-generator in any modern web browser.

Step 2: Fill in Prescription Details

The form includes four main sections:

Patient Information

  • Patient name, species, breed
  • Age or date of birth (auto-calculates)
  • Weight in kilograms
  • Sex and reproductive status
  • Microchip number (optional)

Owner Information

  • Owner's full name
  • Contact details (phone/email)
  • Full postal address

Clinic Information

  • Clinic name and address
  • Contact details
  • Prescriber information (your details)

Medications

Add up to 3 medications using either:

Guided Entry - Structured fields for standard prescriptions:

  • Drug name, strength, and form
  • Quantity to dispense
  • Number of repeats and interval
  • Directions for use

Freeform Entry - Open text field for complex prescriptions:

  • Complete medication details in one field
  • Useful for non-standard formats
  • Required for Schedule 8 drugs (must be completed by hand)

Schedule 8 Drugs: When prescribing Schedule 8 medications, the form allows only 1 medication per prescription. The drug details section should be left blank and completed by hand in ink as per regulatory requirements.

Step 3: Review and Download

  1. Click Preview PDF to review your prescription in a new window
  2. Make any necessary corrections
  3. Click Download PDF to save the prescription
  4. Print the prescription for dispensing

Auto-Save and Drafts

The free prescription generator automatically saves your work to your browser's local storage:

  • Auto-saves every few seconds while typing
  • Persists even if you close the browser
  • Clears automatically after you download the PDF
  • Privacy: All data stays in your browser - nothing is sent to our servers

Prescription ID Format

Each prescription is assigned a unique ID in the format:

VRX[DATE][RANDOM]

For example: VRX202510160342

Multiple medications on the same prescription are numbered sequentially:

  • First medication: VRX202510160342
  • Second medication: VRX202510160342-2
  • Third medication: VRX202510160342-3

Tip: You can edit the prescription ID if needed by clicking the edit icon next to it.

Schedule 8 Prescriptions

When creating Schedule 8 prescriptions:

  1. Check the "Contains Schedule 8 Drug" checkbox
  2. A warning dialog will appear - read and acknowledge it
  3. You can only add 1 medication per prescription
  4. Leave the drug details section blank
  5. Complete all drug details by hand in ink on the printed prescription

This ensures compliance with Australian Schedule 8 prescription requirements.
